Gurukul Recruiter!

There was a time when parents performed tapasya for having a kid like Lord Vishnu, and that’s how Vasudeva and Devaki might have ended up getting one in the form of Sri Krishna.

Wonder, what today’s parents might be praying for?

To get a kid like Elon Musk or the likes of Bill gates, or even our own Tata’s and the Ambani’s! 😉

Well, times have changed, so why not the focus, many might argue.

And with changing times, skill sets that are supposed to run a nation or the world is slated to change big time as well.

With AI and Machine Learning, which have already become the buzz words, the time is not far, when the current technical skill sets that one has will become redundant.

Does it spell doomsday for the current educational setup?

Well, it would be too harsh to say that, though the focus of the very same might need to shift if they are to become relevant with changing times.

Seems like, there would be a need to go back to the fundamentals of education: manav nirmaan.

Does that mean, that the ancient gurukul system will be revived?

Well, to a certain extent, yes; but may be within the ambit of the current modern education system, which will start to have its leanings towards the age-old sensibility.

Does it mean that those graduating from gurukul like set-up will become the sought for, when it comes to companies competing for recruiting good talent?

Might be, which would in turn, require the companies and for that matter, all organizations to have a completely different perspective on recruitment.

How soon it might happen, is anybody’s guess!

Slowly but surely, the world seems to be moving in that direction.

Artificially Intelligent (AI) Human!

It’s kind of scary to think about the very tasks and jobs being taken away from humans by the AI world that seem to have found world-wide acceptance among the visionary thinkers.

But, if you have the time and patience to delve into the aspects a little in depth, you will realize that it’s after all not that scary.

For the world, that is being created around us, is on the basis of human limitations and not human potential.

And when we talk about human potential, we better respect the boundlessness of what it is, especially going by the ability of a human mind to find itself in use and the very limitation of the artificially intelligent human being able to do so.

Sometime back, I had written about this concept of kundalis (horoscopes) being used for determining the job-person fit for recruiting people in organizations.

Now, certain machines are doing the same, which work on this algorithm, where in the skill sets are matched to the key words in job descriptions (JD) and there you get the perfect looking AI man all set to rock your organization and take it to the next level of sorts.

But the very assumption, that success=skill sets or is derived in some way from the same, is far from reality, as many of the HR professionals might have already encountered, their biggest worry being the attrition rate in their respective organizations.

For, if the human was as simple as a+b=c, then the world would look too predictive and robotic in that sense.

Good or bad, to express human capabilities in the form of an equation, no matter how complicated looking, it might be, as it turns out, the predictions made are far from what ends up being the truth.

Need to wonder upon the very foundations of the assumptions made in this regard? Rather than blindly following those assessments and perspectives given by a bunch of western philosophers or psychologists and treating it as the ultimate truth?

High time, one discards the deterministic attitude of knowing how a person might behave and high time to start treating human as a potential and not just a resource.

So, all organizations out there, if you do just the way you are doing, what you might end up getting is an AI man, who might not fulfill your vision, instead result in the creation of a dissatisfied and disheartened AI workforce.

Am sure, you wouldn’t want that. Time for change in perspective?

The Artificial (AI) Temple!

If it was not for the machine learning (ML) and deep learning and any such concept which relates to Artificial Intelligence (AI), I wouldn’t have got married”, was what I heard when I attended one of the weddings recently.

The groom had no doubt that for him, Algorithm=God, for he hasn’t seen God but had certainly found the love of his life, courtesy one of the algorithms being implemented on the Facebook which helps one connect to someone whom you might know.

AI is no more a science fiction. Be it the suggestions of what you might buy, which you tend to see on the likes of Amazon, or be it the ML being used by the likes of IBM Watson, to help doctors diagnose better, AI seems to be affecting each and every aspect of our lives.

Few might be skeptical of its use, suggesting the loss of jobs as a result of humans being replaced by machines and the resulting automation, few go on to suggest the efficient use of the same, focusing on the need for humans to develop new skills and keep evolving with time.

Few fantasize about machines taking on the humans on the lines of Matrix Triology, few go on to suggest the need for developing the machines with altruism as the basis of the same, where in machines learn from worthwhile models, which in turn enables the humans to act more responsibly and correctly, though the entire gamut of values and correctness might have their own proponents.

Whatever it might be, the day is not so far, when with or without the willingness of some, AI would start influencing all our decisions, and instead of people going to the pundits or the temples for consulting for marriage or otherwise, might actually start to approach the AI Temples build for the purpose.

Game of Pixels!

From game of chairs to game of pixels, life seems to be revolving among images, be it of a 4-legged object which we all refer to as the chair, or the x cross x picture represented as collection of pixels.

The more you go deep in the subject of artificial intelligence and machine learning, the more you realize that you have just touched the tip of an iceberg, or a little beyond that ;).

Isn’t if fascinating enough that a machine can learn to do what a human does, learn to emulate, if not all, at least few aspects of our own thought process, experience the emotions in the form of an equation.

images

Imagine, how a machine would read an image by converting the information stored in the pixels into a combination of (0,1) and then predicting whether it was a (0,1) or a (1,0), and depending on whether it was predicting correct, label it as being intelligent or not.

What correlations it draws analogous to what relations it develops with different parameters, reflects its ability to predict, ultimately coming down to its ability to learn.

Which makes me wonder, whether our life is nothing but a manifestation of a collection of pixels. The experiences we have, the stories we built around the same, the moments of pleasure and happiness that we spend with our near and dear ones, it’s all in the form of pictures that we tend to cherish through out our lives in the form of photo albums or Instagram images.

Wonder whether the zeroes and ones written for us, have already been predicted as ones and zeroes and we are just learning to decipher how these zeroes and ones change to ones and zeroes!

Fascinations!

If I were to give you one word today, “fascinating” what is the first thing that comes to your mind.

Wonder, why all of a sudden am I talking about this 11 letter word? Wonder, what is it that has made me get into the things that have anything to do with the same.

For most of us, life has always been that one fascinating thing which has intrigued us, made us happy, made us sad, have been the cause of all sorts of emotions going in our minds.

And of the anatomical aspects, what has fascinated me the most is our ability to see and make sense out of things out there.

The process which starts from our retina going to the optical nerves to the brain, where we actually construct meaning from the things we see, has been well studied and documented.

Have always believed, that things we take for granted, as being coming naturally to us, have been the most difficult to comprehend.

And what better way to demonstrate the same, than by teaching an algorithm how to go about doing visual recognition.

Have you ever wondered, how a child would actually perceive things in his mind? If not, you will have to do so, in case you want to train your algorithm to do things similar to how a human brain does.

You will have to get to the very basics of the various wavelengths being detected by the receptors and being given a meaning through the very fundamentals of NLP.

Everything ranging from emotions to mindset, from perceptions to language, starts from the information we receive through our senses.

Be it love, hate, intelligence, the one thing that remains common in the development of all is how comprehensively we receive and perceive the information gained from our senses.

Which makes me believe the very essence of life is framed through the lenses of our receptors.

After all, it’s about making sense, which is immensely fascinating in itself. Isn’t it?

AI: Man’s Best Buddy?

Imagine a scenario, where a software services and product company has a founder or a couple of co-founders sitting happily monitoring a machine performing all kind of stuff ranging from receiving client requirement to preparing phase wise modules, from completion of the development to testing each and every aspect of the same, from sending invoices to notifying the founder of the receipt of payment.

Does it sound like science-fiction? Well, the day is not that far, when each and every aspect of our lives, from womb to tomb will become automated. The cars will have no drivers, just a person monitoring the functioning of the algorithm or the program being run.

No one would need to come to the office. All exams would be given from their own little artificially created enclosures inside your homes, only to be accessed by the right candidate through his or her bio-metrics.

All data will belong to the in vogue dark web, which would be available to only a select few individuals having special access rights. All diagnosis will be done via the likes of machines like IBM Watson.

images

Preventive healthcare would be the buzz word, with each one of us, acting like a doctor, in the true sense of the world, being able to monitor and provide the right medication himself/herself.

Cannot help but wonder, if all the above, would be done by the machines, what would the ever increasing population end up doing? No matter how many skills one learns, one would never be able to match the ratio and the rate with which machines would be replacing humans in practically every job.

Though the pros are immense, cons seem to haunt the very essence of life, or may be it’s high time to re-define the very essence?
