The Complete Homo Sapien!

Yes, somewhat inspired from the Raymond tagline,

Inclusive, no gender bias here, because homo sapiens are being spoken about as a whole,

But who are these who tend to belong to this category?

Beings who know themselves,

Why they are doing something, the very intentions behind the same,

Who seem to be able to handle any situation that comes their way cheerfully,

Who act upon things that seem to be important not only to them but at least the significant others, ideally the entire society,

People who more often than not seem to be standing on the right side of the fence,

Where are they found?

Here and there,

Everywhere,

Demonstrating at least few traits if not all,

Something good must be happening with the education system, one wonders,

For the world is certainly progressing,

Nothing can be 100 percent correct after all, one might argue, considering the current state of affairs,

But does one even know what being complete really means?

Is there a benchmark of sorts in the current times we happen to be living in?

Is there a way, a process, of becoming one?

Would it require another human revolution of sorts on the lines of industrial revolution?

Why do we need such, one may ask.

In order:

To survive in the best harmonic way we can,

To realize the dream of welfare for all,

To make this very life beautiful, rather than aspiring for a heaven, not having the slightest clue of what that might be or to begin with whether it exists,

Simply put, to lead a life of fulfilment.

To begin with,

Do we already have systems in place?

Or

Is someone really thinking on these lines? I wonder!

From Use Me to Need Me?

My first memory of the phrase “Use Me!” is, when as a kid, I saw this cute little dustbin in the corridors of my school, asking me not to throw the wrapper of the chocolate that I had just eaten, on the ground, instead inside the one and only place it should be thrown into.

Indeed the idea of Utilitarianism caught my imagination, which in itself is a fantastic idea to have around oneself, the only catch being, if the very idea is being utilized in a smart way.

Unfortunately, as it has turned out, lot of things from:

Doing Networking to making friends,

Exploiting resources to minting money,

Consumerism to Materialism,

Has led to a state of affairs, where the first thought that comes in all our minds is,

How can we make use of something?

Will I benefit from using it in this way, or I need to find an alternate which can make the utilization more efficient, in turn leading to more profits?

What is that key differentiator/ USP when I go about exploiting the resources?

What this has led to is a complete neglect of the destruction and harm that we are causing to not only this planet but also to the minds of individuals.

Especially the next generation kids, whom we are breeding into robots who would want to run after success the moment they gain some control over their mind and body, the very basis of which is to accumulate as many possessions as possible at any cost.

And then we happily have those table-top conversations about how bad the world is becoming, how difficult it would be for our children to survive and debating about accumulating more and more for the security that we would want to pass on to our next generation.

As it turns out, neither of the table-top conversations nor the accumulation would slow down the tide of destruction,

The only thing which might work, since we still have sometime, is a realization that the very basis of success need not be money; after all:

A mother’s effort and time which she devotes towards bringing up her child, cannot be weighed in terms of money,

So, how about going from a use based thought process towards a need based thought process?

How about slowing down the pace of exploits, giving us time to look at it from a sustainable perspective?

How about giving up a share of profits for a better ecosystem?

How about incorporating other values and parameters as the basis of success with possessions making a very small percentage, as a consequence of what one does and not what one aims to do?

The ball is very much in our court, if we fail to hit the right shot now, doomsday ahead,

But I have full faith in the power of utilitarianism that homo sapiens have got so accustomed to using in their day-to-day life, which would slowly but surely enable all of us to think about the very fundamentals of existence.

LOL Belief!

No one needs to tell the modern tech savvy folks as to what LOL means, a light word representing a reaction on something you find really funny.

Surely, belief is a much more serious word, indicating that all of us have a tendency to accept the existence of some aspect of our life, which doesn’t seem to come into our experience or we are not able to comprehend and we end up believing the same.

The most talked about since times immemorial is the creator or God himself/herself or any other name that you want to refer to as, either way whether you accept or don’t accept his/her existence, you end up believing the same.

On one hand, where not being able to provide an observable and repeatable proof of some kind through randomized control trial experiments (guess that’s what modern science is all about) leads people to believing that something doesn’t exist, not realizing the possibility of such a thing to be discovered in the near future.

On the other hand, those who strongly believe in something gives them a tool to say anything and everything on the basis of the same, which can lead to exploitation or all the senseless activities that might be nothing but a consequence of exploitation of such a belief.

After all, the very fundamentals of the society were built on some kind of an imagined reality, very different from let’s say the physical reality.

If you are wondering, what I might be referring to, take for example, a corporation (derived from the word corpus=body and referred to as a limited liability company in US), it’s very ironical that though not a physical entity, yet has an identity of it’s own, with ever lasting existence till it’s brought to a close by another concept of sorts, socio-economic-legal-political system that seems to exist since homo sapiens started dwelling together.

What is scary though, is that belief has led to wars and all kinds of destructive activities that our breed has taken all the credit for.

Being the so called educated and conditioned folks that we all claim to be and have become respectively, don’t you think, it’s after all not a bad idea to delve into skepticism, just a touch bit, to allow yourself that chance of being able to get out of the vicious circle of believing and not believing, rather seeing for yourself whether such a think exists or not, which seems to be the correct scientific approach.

The question though is, whether one can become flexible enough to different point of views and stop believing for the sake of life itself!

Think Beyond till you have a Chance to!

I still cannot believe when I heard it for the first time,

Is it true? How did it happen? Are you sure? But he was perfectly alright! How could something happen to him of all people?”

I was shocked to the core to hear of the demise of a person, whom I had known since I first stepped into my hostel room in college, for he was a bhai not the brother from the same mother, not the dons with whom the word has found some sort of resonance, but one among a group of 5 freshers kept under the same student guide supposed to make our lives easy in college.

A gem of a person that he was, we were ragged on several occasions together, courtesy our student counselor. On numerous occasions, I remember having borrowed his notes to study overnight before the exams.

Though we didn’t keep much in touch, we took our own respective paths after college, yet it never occurred that it could end so soon for him, for death is the last thing a youngster tends to worry about, having graduated from the best of the best institutes in India looking with beaming eyes at a much desired career path.

And then, you cannot help but realize a very simple fact of life, that you are just a speck and that too a very small one in this cosmos, a thing which appeared by chance from somewhere, and one day, is bound to vaporize as if you weren’t there at all, taking away all the I’s and the Me’s and the ego that comes along with the same, with you.

Don’t you think we start to give too much of importance to this little self of ours? Don’t you think, we start taking the Me’s too seriously and making it the basis of all our actions? Don’t you think, all the accumulations be it the physical or the materialist ones that we have got so busy with, will not matter at all when the time comes?

Sometimes I wonder, the one chance that has been bestowed to all of us, as homo sapiens, why not live our lives as if there was no tomorrow, live it in the most compassionate and enthusiastic way that we can, be it doing good for others or committing towards that one thing that you really care about and which if implemented can do good not only for you but for every being on this planet.

For seriously guys, have seen it unfold in front of my eyes to a very talented and wonderful human being, kal ho na ho!

Make full use of this opportunity and think beyond, for if you don’t, and when the time comes, which might be as soon as the next moment for how do you know that you are getting up next morning, it would be too late to do anything about the same.

So give it a thought and do your best!
