Promise Philosophy

You might have heard,

I don’t know who it was,

that promises are meant to be broken,

what an idiotic statement it might seem to be,

why I say so is because,

this very statement has brought our society to this point in time where,

words are thrown very carelessly,

with a chalta hai attitude,

where people are always distrusting what the other is saying,

for, in their experience, a big gap exists between the words uttered and the intention behind the same,

Once bitten twice shy, they stick on to,

So,

Rather than philosophizing about every thing and anything,

Guess, high time,

we start behaving in a sensible and responsible manner,

where we only utter what we really mean and intend to do!

क्या है ये ज़िन्दगी ! (What is this life?)

I don’t know how many of you would know about or have seen this TV serial,

By the name of: Ye Jo Hai Zindagi!

It was a Natayam;

A medium of conveying the dynamics of life in an entertaining manner to the audience,

As a kid, how simple, life seemed to be at that time!

Later we realized,

How complicated it was,

Not that we weren’t aware of the inherent complications earlier,

But we tended to make it more complex as we grew up,

By turning, let’s say

Beautiful emotions like friendship into give and take relations,

Incorporating our agenda in every talk that we do,

Focusing on doing only those things which could bring some kind of profit,

As a result,

Life became a mess for most of us,

Reality check came in the form of Covid,

Where, like it or not,

Each one of us was forced to introspect in some way or the other,

Realizing life has always been about enjoying so called little moments,

Being in the present,

Not worrying too much,

And

Dealing with situations in life as and when they come.

So, before delving a lot into the philosophies of life,

Why not just keep it simple, as it was meant to be!

Use and Throw!

A monologue from a learned philosopher and a professor by profession, just remembered:

People come into your life for a reason.

Nothing comes free or with a label of being unconditional.

Be it the person who comes to me for a PhD,

Be it the people who want to collaborate with me on a project,

or

Be it the love of my life whom I treat as a part of my extended self,

Few might comment that its all about using and throwing,

Well, that’s one perspective but surely has different ways of looking at it,

It could be perceived as give and take,

May be represented as a symbiotic existential relationship,

or

Spiritually speaking, just a payback of one’s own Karmas,

It’s how you judge or form an opinion about the interaction determines whether it makes you happy or not.

Whether you are annoyed and feel cheated,

or

Whether you take it in your stride as part of what’s meant to be.

After all, even Corona is trying to do use the human body for its existence,

Sooner or later, it’s bound to realize that living and letting live is a sustainable solution for both, though it’s still learning.

When the tiniest of entities may endeavor to learn this fundamental aspect of life,

Why can’t we as beings?”

Just a Matter of Time!

See_the_ME!

A philosopher once said, “If you really wanna know how a person is, you need to dive deep into the ocean of her eyes, for eyes tell nothing but the truth, if you perceive it well, that is!

A beautiful thought indeed, though what’s needed is to become a keen and focused observer to understand the very fundamentals of all emotions, be it love or hate and the very existence in itself.

What we refer to as the connect is very much a part of our realisation that each and every matter in this universe is nothing but a derivative of the same cells or particles.

Only if we were to remove the conditioned garb, which we tend to adorn with great pride each day of our lives, would things be perceived more than what it seems to be right now.

Which leads to a zeal to explore and in turn a possibility of a discovery beyond imagination,

Be it that one moment you would die to spend with the special one of your life,

Be it the cause that you would want to dedicate yourself throughout your life,

Be it spending quality time with your ageing parents,

or

Be it lying in the garden and looking at the beautiful starts.

For thou shall perceive, what you ought to, and what’s about to happen will reveal what it was all about in times to come!

Artificially Intelligent (AI) Human!

It’s kind of scary to think about the very tasks and jobs being taken away from humans by the AI world that seem to have found world-wide acceptance among the visionary thinkers.

But, if you have the time and patience to delve into the aspects a little in depth, you will realize that it’s after all not that scary.

For the world, that is being created around us, is on the basis of human limitations and not human potential.

And when we talk about human potential, we better respect the boundlessness of what it is, especially going by the ability of a human mind to find itself in use and the very limitation of the artificially intelligent human being able to do so.

Sometime back, I had written about this concept of kundalis (horoscopes) being used for determining the job-person fit for recruiting people in organizations.

download

Now, certain machines are doing the same, which work on this algorithm, where in the skill sets are matched to the key words in job descriptions (JD) and there you get the perfect looking AI man all set to rock your organization and take it to the next level of sorts.

But the very assumption, that success=skill sets or is derived in some way from the same, is far from reality, as many of the HR professionals might have already encountered, their biggest worry being the attrition rate in their respective organizations.

For, if the human was as simple as a+b=c, then the world would look too predictive and robotic in that sense.

Good or bad, to express human capabilities in the form of an equation, no matter how complicated looking, it might be, as it turns out, the predictions made are far from what ends up being the truth.

Need to wonder upon the very foundations of the assumptions made in this regard? Rather than blindly following those assessments and perspectives given by a bunch of western philosophers or psychologists and treating it as the ultimate truth?

High time, one discards the deterministic attitude of knowing how a person might behave and high time to start treating human as a potential and not just a resource.

So, all organizations out there, if you do just the way you are doing, what you might end up getting is an AI man, who might not fulfill your vision, instead result in the creation of a dissatisfied and disheartened AI workforce.

Am sure, you wouldn’t want that. Time for change in perspective?

One on One with God!

It’s not often that you come across a philosopher of sorts, and when you do, you tend to cherish the moments that you spend with the likes.

The conversation could range from anything to everything, but one thing that tends to remain constant is, that all discussions, even though, they might look weird, tend to have their origins in science.

images

And one such conversation, is what, I would want to share with you today:

Philosopher (P): Have you ever wondered, what if your destiny, if it exists at all, leads you to a place where you didn’t get that chance to go one on one with the creator?

Me: No

P: What if it didn’t allow you to question Him about the reason behind making you go through all the hardships that you happened to suffer throughout your life?

What if it didn’t allow you to go to Heaven or Hell, depending on your karma to meet your loved ones, in an environment where everything’s perfect?

What if the very science or non-science behind your existence is not what you might have believed in?

What if it’s all an illusion and a combination of reactions to make you believe that what you are is what you are not?

Me: What if?

P: 🙂 . Would be not feel cheated?

Me: Probably yes!

P: Do you want to feel like that?

Me: No

P: Do you believe in Homeopathy?

Me: Yes

P: Do you think it cures?

Me: Yes

P: Have you seen this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0Z7KeNCi7g)

Me: No

P: Why do you think I am speaking to you about the same?

Me: May be (you have gone mad ;)) you want to tell me something?

P: Well, yes and no, yes because I want you and for that matter everyone to think on the basis of sound evidence, and no because, I don’t want you to follow me blindly.

Me: How does it help?

P: That you need to figure out yourself.

And that is where our conversation ended.

Though, with the kind of obvious resistance to the questioning of the beliefs that I had been conditioned to develop over a period of time, and with this philosopher suggesting to get rid of all beliefs and making scientific evidence as the basis of all thinking, didn’t really go along with the very essence of me, yet I decided to give it a shot.

Don’t know whether it would be the be all end all solution to every woes that our human race tend to experience, yet I believe it’s worth trying.

After all, if we weren’t exploring, were we actually living?

Happiness Decoded!

Came across a beautiful video on LinkedIn of this wonderful girl (https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=4&v=cUkZLttONGM) and wanted to share with you all.

At such a young age, how certain situations and circumstances teach you what we elders tend to forget having joined the rat race and in pursuing what might really not matter, say 20 years down the line.

Over time, people have tried to define happiness and the real reason why we are living. Instead of going into the philosophy of the same, I believe, since we are the ones who are living, it should have a practical significance and all thoughts should lead to a path, which enables one to live life in the best possible manner.

For if you are gone, it won’t matter what you did. Life is indeed living those moments that constitute the super set. If you are not striving towards making each moment of your life productive, be it professional or personal, and adding just that delta to the happiness quotient, be it for yourself or for others, I believe you are not doing enough and the strive and the motivation to do so needs some kind of, what Sallu bhai would say, a ‘kick‘ to keep it going.

images

I will say no more, as I would want that all you guys out there, get the kick that we all should aspire for and would leave you all to watch this beautiful video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=4&v=cUkZLttONGM) explaining what life and happiness could mean.

The First One!

Have you ever wondered why so much of importance is given to the firsts by our society, so much so that an entire advertisement was dedicated to as to who would be first to win the Indian Football League.

Why this fascination with the first? Isn’t second more or less the same as the first. After all, isn’t it just a number that was invented by I don’t know who, but someone intelligent enough to understand the very fundamentals of numerology.

The first kiss, the first girlfriend, the first and hopefully the only wife, the first baby, the first book you read, the first teacher whom you had a crush on in your school or college, the first time you won a medal, the first time you stood first in class, the first rank in a competitive examination; all the above have immense significance attributed to by the who’s who of our society. first one

To be honest, when I started writing this article, I had someone on my mind, but the time interval between having someone on my mind and having started actually penning down my thoughts, it took a different turn altogether.

And I deviated from writing about that someone to this particular one. Now coming back to that someone, and dedicating it to all those who believe that love happens just once,

Patte Mat Kholiyo!

There is this guy who is trying to get married these days. Believing that he doesn’t have a copyright over his so called philosophy of sorts for things ranging from getting married to behaving in a certain manner in his professional life, I am taking this liberty of borrowing his philosophy and concepts to explain, at the same time understand what he really means when he says “main apne patte kabhi bhi nahi kholta” ;).

To understand what he really means by this, let me cite a few situations, along with the actions taken by him:

Situation No. 1: A friend calls and asks him: “are you going home this weekend?” to which he neither replies in the affirmative or negative but just says that he might go the week after. On being asked, why he didn’t give a straight answer in a yes or a no, he is more than happy to reveal the strategy behind his answer. He says that if he tells his friend that he would go this weekend and if he doesn’t happen to go, then the friend would think that he had lied. And if he goes after having told his friend that he won’t go, then if the friend comes to know about the same, his friend would again feel upset about the same. So, instead of giving a straightforward answer, he choses not to and he refers to this strategy as patte nahi kholna.conversation

Situation No. 2: The girl’s father, who had come to meet him, asks him whether he drinks, to which he replies that he is a vegetarian. By answering in such a manner, he ensures two things. One is that he is able to change the topic of conversation. Secondly, the girl’s father having heard that the guy is a vegetarian perceives him to be a person who doesn’t drink. By this he ensures that the girl’s father doesn’t come to know about his drinking habits, in case he drinks, and in turn considers him a good guy (which makes me wonder how our society is good at stereotyping people and putting them into good and bad categories based on their so called good and bad habits). Once again, he manages to keep himself in good regard at the same time ensures that he doesn’t open his cards (patte).11118567

From the couple of situations that I have cited above, it is clear that he is thinking about a lot of permutations and combinations before saying anything. His brain must be really efficient considering the fact that it does so many computations and is able to take care of the numerous thought processes that seem to be going on in his mind at one point of time (which makes me wonder that he might be using at least 10% of his brains that he has, more than what Mr. Einstein might have used during his times).

On one hand where he manages to keep all the problems at an arm’s length, on the other hand he is able to emerge a successful person in our so called practical society. But one thing that I keep wondering about and am quite perplexed about is how difficult it might be for a person to keep applying his mind to things that, if you chose to behave in a straightforward manner, you might not have to do the same.

On second thoughts, when I look at things happening around myself, I sometimes wonder whether what he does might be the right way of leading one’s life and the most appropriate manner in which one can handle situations arising in one’s life.

I just wonder whether patte mat kholo philosophy should be adopted by all. What say? I guess the answer to this should be customized according to one’s own sweet will and the happiness that comes along as a part and parcel of being attached to this free will.

As long as you are not inflicting any harm on any other person and as long as it is not adopted with any bad intention in mind, it might be ok for those who chose to lead their life going by the doctrines of this philosophy.

As far as I am concerned, I find it easier to be straight forward, which at times, can and does have bad consequences for me. After all it is a trade-off. With any thing and any decision that you make, comes along the pros and cons.

At the end of the day, the onus lies upon you to decide for yourself, as to what’s best for you.
